Being frozen in front of an actively attacking Ice Admiral is frequently a death sentence for under-leveled players. The tell for Frost Nova is a crystalline buildup effect around his body — the moment you see ice crystals forming on his arms, dash backward at least 8-10 studs to safely clear the radius. This single mechanic is the primary cause of death in this fight.
Constant lateral movement is the second key principle for this fight. Ice Admiral fires Ice Shards in bursts of 3 — three rapid-fire projectiles that spread in a slight fan pattern. A player standing still will catch all three, but a player continuously side-stepping will avoid the majority. Think of it like strafing: never stop moving horizontally, and sidestep in the opposite direction when you see him raise his arm to fire. The ice floor of the arena has slightly reduced traction compared to normal terrain, which can make precise dashing feel slightly delayed — keep this in mind when dodging the shard bursts.
Fire-type attacks deal a minor elemental bonus against Ice Admiral due to the ice-fire counter mechanic, though the bonus is smaller here than against his awakened Second Sea counterpart.
